Passionfruit Iced Tea

 

It’s Thirsty Thurs-yay! To celebrate, I have a Passion Fruit Iced Tea recipe to share. A few weeks ago I posted a passion fruit cocktail that used a homemade passion fruit simple syrup. Since I didn’t want to over do it on the cocktails (ok, full disclosure I ran out of blood oranges and had to stop), I had some syrup left and started to think of some recipes where I could use it. Immediately I thought, iced tea. It’s so simple! But it was so much more than simple, it was absolutely delicious. It reminded me of a fruit infused iced tea that I LOVE and order every time we visit this restaurant. The only thing missing in this version were the little pieces of fruit. I think that would be a very nice addition to the iced tea. And you really could get creative with the fruit, strawberries, mango… whatever you want to add in! What I like about homemade tea is that you can make it as sweet as you would like, so if you prefer to not drink sugar water and enjoy the flavors of the drink this is definitely the way to go. But, if you prefer a sweeter drink, just add more syrup. I mean there is fruit in it after all! I happened to use a box of tea that I had, and followed the instructions to brew the tea, It was basically 2 c boiling water with 5 tea bags. Let it sit for about 5 minutes and then add it to a pitcher with 3 cups of ice. Boom! Ready to go. I keep the syrup separate and add it as I want a glass. So easy, simple ingredients without a ton of chemicals in it. I also opted for decaf tea since I’m addicted to coffee and get more of my fair share of caffeine daily and I can then enjoy this in the evening and not be up all night. And now, I can enjoy a glass while Mother Nature tortures us with yet ANOTHER snow storm apparently on the way for tomorrow. Really Mother Nature?! Best April Fools joke I suppose? I have to be honest at this point I would have preferred a joke that included unseasonably warm weather.
